Hello folks. This is the fancy place to ask for critique of your characters. Human, fantroll, fanspecies, it doesn't really matter. If it's a character with a defined setting, it can be critiqued here. If you're going to post a fanspecies character, it helps to define the world they live in as well so that a critic can ask questions related to said world to help you out.
Now, threads like these definitely need rules. If you're going to post at all in here, please keep these in mind:
AS A PERSON ASKING FOR CRITIQUE:
AS A CRITIC:
1. When pointing out flaws, explain why they are flaws if you are able.
2. Offer ideas for improvements or possible solutions.
3. Do not tear apart someone's character maliciously. There's a difference between constructive criticism and being needlessly rude.
4. Consider complimenting parts of the character that are done well.
5. If someone is not taking your critique, do not go through two pages of arguing. Take it to the private messaging system if you must, but realize that people are not always willing to change certain aspects of their character. Yes, this contradicts rule 2 for them, but it has happened many times in the past for similar threads.
Also, feel free to post spritework that you would like critiqued as well. The same rules apply. Anyone and everyone can post critique or ask for critique here, there are no designated critics.
Now, threads like these definitely need rules. If you're going to post at all in here, please keep these in mind:
AS A PERSON ASKING FOR CRITIQUE:
- Be prepared to accept critique. Do not be super defensive and angry if and when someone critiques you.
- Do not wave off critique. You can justify elements of a character, but you shouldn't be explaining away every flaw that gets pointed out. If someone is insisting something should be changed, please consider it instead of immediately dismissing it because it is 'vital' to your character.
- Acknowledge what parts of your character need improvement.
- Be patient for critique. If your character gets missed and you really, really want critique of them, you can post asking people to look at it, but do not get super impatient. People aren't exactly getting paid to look over your character.
- Accept that sometimes you and a critic will disagree, and that does not mean you need to go on a two page argument about whether something is good or not.
